Bug Spray How To’s

Here is an easy way to make your own personal insect repellent spray using Bug Free essential oil.

In a 4 ounce spray bottle add 1 tsp vodka**, 20 drops of Bug Free and fill with purified water. Shake well to mix. Mist clothing and hair before going outside. Periodically spray yourself again while shaking the spray bottle. Pay particular attention to neck, ankles and any other area of exposed skin.

**Vodka, Why is it needed? Essential oils are not water-soluble but the main ingredient in the spray is water. To help the water distribute the beneficial properties of essential oils we, first combine them with a good quality alcohol, such as vodka. Once the essential oil/s and vodka have been mixed well, the water can be added. This combination is very effective but it will not stay mixed for long periods of time, so frequent shaking while spraying is important.

Don’t have Bug Free on hand but want to make a personal insect repellent spray? You can simply use the individual oils that are in the Bug Free essential oil blend (listed above). Using your favorite essential oil blending method, make a synergistic blend and allow it to mellow for about 3 weeks. During that time be sure to turn the bottle on its side and roll it back and forth a few times each day. When the synergistic blend is ready for use, make your insect repellent spray by following the instructions above.
