At least twice a year (spring and fall) it is a good idea to give our skin an exfoliating scrub. Here is a fresh and natural exfoliating skin scrub that you can make in your kitchen every Fall when pomegranates are in season. I just learned that some grocers are now making the seeds available in a container that you can find in the produce section.
This scrub is best used the same day that you make it.
3 T pomegranate arils (seeds with ruby red pulp)
2 T raw honey
2 T buttermilk
3 drops of Myrrh or Hadassah essential oil from Remnant Remedy
1 cup uncooked oatmeal or 7 grain cereal (available from Wheat Montana)
¾ cup turbinado sugar or dead sea salts
Also you will need a little Olive Oil or carrier oil of your choice and a few drops of one of the above essential oils – more on that later.
Using a blender or food processor, process pomegranate arils (seeds) with honey, buttermilk and essential oil
Add the uncooked cereal and process enough to combine all ingredients
This scrub should be the consistency of a soft, spreadable paste – add more buttermilk and blend if needed to make soft and spreadable.
Remove from food processor and place into a medium mixing bowl.
Remove about 1/3 cup and set aside.
To the remaining mixture add the sugar or dead sea salts and mix well with spoon until combined.
First, gather everything that you will need then head to the bathroom for a spa treatment fit for Queen Hadassah (Esther) another shadow of the Bride of Messiah. You will need a robe, something to pull your hair off of your face, a bath towel, an old towel to stand on when in the shower, the bowl of scrub, the reserved 1/3 cup mixture, olive oil or carrier oil and one of the essential oils listed in the ingredients.
First your body:
Standing on the towel in the shower with only the faucet running, splash warm water on yourself – you don’t want to be completely wet. Now, working on one area of the body at a time, start at the top – your shoulders, arms and chest (we will use the reserved scrub for your face later.) Apply the scrub mixture to your skin and rub all over. Continue to work on your whole body and give extra attention to your elbows, knees and feet.
Stand there and relax for about 5 minutes to allow the beneficial ingredients to ‘minister to your skin.’ Rinse off under the shower with warm water. Dry off and apply 2 teaspoons of olive oil or carrier oil of your choice and a drop of Myrrh or Hadassah essential oil to your beautiful smooth skin. Use more olive oil and a drop of essential oil as directed above to lightly cover all of your skin, avoiding the face and neck. Allow to soak into your skin.
Now the Face:
Use the 1/3 cup of reserved scrub (without the sugar or salt) on your face and neck. Spread it on your slightly damp skin and massage your skin in circular motions. Avoid the delicate skin of the eye area. Use an up and down motion (like the ancient Hebrew character for mem m across your forehead, cheeks, chin and neck). Smooth and pat into place.
Put a robe on and find a comfy chair to sit in. Put your head back and close your eyes. Relax for about 5 minutes, again allowing the beneficial ingredients to minister to your skin. Rinse off with warm water and follow with a cool splash. Pat dry and apply the olive oil and 1 drop of Myrrh or Hadassah to your face and neck and use any extra on your hands.
You should feel relaxed and refreshed like Hadassah did after one of her beauty treatments in preparation for her meeting with the King and future Bridegroom.
